Court Grants Bail to Speed Darlington After Prolonged Detention

Date:

Nigerian rapper Speed Darlington, whose real name is Darlington Achakpo, has been granted bail after spending nearly a month in police custody.

The update was shared by his lawyer, Stanley Alieke, on Instagram, who confirmed that the court had approved his bail. “Apki has been granted bail by the court,” Alieke posted, offering little additional information.

Speed Darlington was arrested on November 27 while performing at a show in Owerri, Imo State, following allegations of abuse toward Afrofusion star Burna Boy. Despite the challenges surrounding the case, Darlington’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, had previously stated that the rapper would either be arraigned within 48 hours or granted bail. Adeyanju further emphasized the importance of justice, stating, “Issues around injustice may take time, but justice will always prevail.”

The rapper’s release marks a significant turn in a case that has attracted public attention, with many hoping for a swift resolution.
