University of Ibadan, Sapade Get Mobile Power Substations for Stable Electricity

Date:

The Federal Government has taken a significant step toward ensuring uninterrupted power supply with the commissioning of 63MVA, 142/33KV mobile substations in Sapade, Ogun State, and at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State.

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, inaugurated the projects on Friday, describing them as pivotal to modernizing Nigeria’s power sector and improving citizens’ quality of life. The substations were executed under the Presidential Power Initiative by the FGN Power Company in partnership with Siemens Energy.

Adelabu emphasized the impact of the projects, stating, “The commissioning of these mobile substations is a testament to our commitment to delivering reliable and sustainable power to all Nigerians. These installations address transmission capacity constraints, enhancing the grid by over 1,300MW nationwide.”

Managing Director and CEO of FGN Power Company, Kenny Anuwe, highlighted the strategic importance of the substations. “This deployment not only fills critical infrastructure gaps but also boosts the reliability of our power systems. For the University of Ibadan, this substation will provide stable power, empowering academic and research excellence for the university and surrounding communities,” he said.

The initiative has resulted in the deployment of five mobile substations across Ajah, Jebba, Kwanar Dangora, the University of Ibadan, and Sapade, collectively adding 252MW to the national grid. In total, the upgrades have increased the grid’s transmission capacity by 821.6MW.

Francis Agoha, MD/CEO of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, lauded the effort, pledging the company’s commitment to uninterrupted power supply. “These projects will spur economic growth by supporting businesses and enhancing electricity transmission in the affected areas,” Agoha noted.

The government’s collaboration with Siemens Energy and other stakeholders underscores its determination to resolve Nigeria’s power challenges, paving the way for a more reliable and efficient energy future.
