Simon suffers fresh injury setback, out for two weeks

Date:

Moses Simon, the Nigerian international winger for FC Nantes, is set to miss more time due to an injury setback.

After having returned to action in August following a fractured fibula, Simon has been battling persistent ankle pain, a complication from that earlier injury.

FC Nantes confirmed that he will undergo surgery to address this ongoing issue, which involves the removal of a plate and screws from his ankle and fibula.

Nantes’ head coach, Antoine Kombouaré, provided an update, stating that the surgery is necessary for Simon to fully recover and that it will allow him two weeks to rest and recover before rejoining the team.

“Moses had the plate and screws removed from his ankle (and fibula) because he had been in a lot of pain recently,” Kombouaré revealed, as per Ouest-France.

“We are taking advantage of this period, with the short break coming up, to have him undergo this operation. It will give him two weeks before he can calmly resume with the group.

“It was really a necessary operation for him.”

While the operation is expected to take place during the short break in the football calendar, Simon’s availability for the resumption of Ligue 1 in early January is uncertain.

Simon has been one of Nantes’ standout performers this season, contributing four goals and five assists in 14 Ligue 1 appearances, making him the team’s top scorer and assist leader.

His absence will be felt, especially with important fixtures like the Coupe de France opener against Drancy on December 21.
