FG Approves Increase in Allowances for Public Service Officers

Date:

The Federal Government has approved an increase in allowances for public service officers, including duty tour allowances, transport allowances, uniform allowances, and overtime allowances.

This decision was made during the 46th meeting of the National Council on Establishment (NCE), which was chaired by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack. The NCE, the highest policy-making body for public service matters in Nigeria, consists of the Heads of Service from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

According to a report obtained by our correspondent, the meeting followed a two-day technical session, which was chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Service Policies and Strategies Office. This session was attended by permanent secretaries and directors from all states and the FCT, with the Director of Organisation Design and Development serving as secretary.

During the meeting, 32 memoranda were reviewed, with six approved, eight stepped down, six rejected, and seven referred to the Standing Committee for further review. One memorandum was noted, and three will be resubmitted for reconsideration.

Among the key decisions approved was the upward revision of allowances for officers in the public service, alongside a comprehensive review of the Schemes of Service to reflect the Council’s approvals.
