The Federal Government has begun the construction of a smart divisional police headquarters and six residential quarters for rank-and-file officers in Mpape, a community within the Bwari Area Council of Abuja.
This initiative is part of broader reforms aimed at modernising Nigeria’s policing system by integrating advanced technology and fostering community inclusivity.
The Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Yusuf Abubakar Argungu, presided over the groundbreaking ceremony.
According to a statement by Bolaji Kazeem, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry, the project is designed to tackle security challenges in Mpape and nearby areas, providing a safer environment for residents and businesses.
“The establishment of this divisional police headquarters will safeguard citizens from crimes such as kidnapping, one-chance operations, and robbery, while also improving security for those commuting daily,” said Gaidam.
The minister reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to transforming the Nigeria Police Force into a modern institution. The focus, he said, is on intelligence-led, community-based, and technology-driven operations.
“The Federal Government is determined to create a world-class police force that is inclusive and technology-oriented to meet the security needs of citizens,” the statement read.
Alhaji Adamu Diga, the District Head of Mpape, applauded the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, and the Nigeria Police Force for upgrading the Mpape Police Post to a full Divisional Headquarters.
He highlighted the project as a transformative step that would enhance the efficiency of policing and improve service delivery in the community.
The development underscores a major milestone in strengthening security and modernising police infrastructure in the Federal Capital Territory.
