Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi is spreading festive cheer this Christmas by feeding 100 families in his hometown of Canning Town, London, as part of his charitable initiative, Project 17.
The Nigeria international, who is enjoying his best start to a Premier League season, is determined to give back to those in need during the holiday season.
Iwobi will host a special event at a local supermarket in Canning Town, where everything will be free for families in the community.
“It’s a one-day event, and we’re calling it AleXpress, where we’ll give out food and essentials to 100 families,” Iwobi said.
“It’s important for me to use my platform to help those who are less fortunate.”
Growing up in a household where giving back was always a priority, Iwobi says his parents have inspired his charitable actions.
“My dad always gave to people—whether it was in Nigeria or here, he would buy bottles of water and give them to neighbours,” Iwobi told Daily Mail.
“Seeing that growing up has had a huge impact on me. I feel it’s only right for me to do the same now that I’m in a position to help.”
This charitable act is just one example of Iwobi’s commitment to giving back. He has been actively involved in Project 17, which aims to support vulnerable individuals and communities.
The initiative has seen Iwobi organizing various charity events, including food drives, and supporting young people through education and sports.
Despite the busy Premier League season, Iwobi remains dedicated to balancing his football career with his charitable work.
“Whether I’m playing a tough match against Liverpool or dealing with injuries, I know I have to make time for things like this,” he says. “It’s all about using your influence to make a positive difference.”
As Fulham heads into the festive period with crucial matches ahead, Iwobi’s focus on helping others is a reminder that, for him, football is just one part of a much bigger picture. “I want to show that there’s more to life than football. Giving back is something that keeps me grounded and motivated,” Iwobi adds.
Through his actions, Iwobi is proving that the true spirit of Christmas lies in the joy of giving, as he continues to inspire both on and off the pitch.
