NECO Releases 2025 SSCE External Results, 71.63% Pass Five Credits

Date:

The National Examinations Council (NECO) on Tuesday announced the release of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External results, reporting that 71.63 per cent of candidates earned five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.

Announcing the results at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, said candidates can check their scores on the council’s official website using their examination registration numbers.

“It is my pleasure to declare the 2025 SSCE External Results released,” Prof. Wushishi said, adding that candidates should access the results via the NECO portal with their registration numbers.

Prof. Wushishi disclosed that a total of 96,979 candidates registered for the exam across 16 subjects, with 95,160 candidates eventually sitting for the papers.

In subject-by-subject performance breakdowns:

  • 78.32 per cent of the 93,425 candidates who sat English Language obtained credit and above.
  • 91.35 per cent of the 93,330 candidates who wrote Mathematics secured credit and above.

Prof. Wushishi noted that 82,082 candidates (86.26 per cent) achieved five credits and above irrespective of English and Mathematics.

The registrar also highlighted a rise in examination malpractice, saying 9,016 candidates were booked for various offences — a 31.7 per cent increase compared with last year’s 6,160 cases.

He added that five supervisors including two from the Federal Capital Territory were recommended for blacklisting for aiding malpractice, and that four examination centres were recommended for derecognition due to involvement in whole-centre malpractice.

The SSCE External remains a key assessment for candidates seeking certification or improved grades outside the regular school system.
