Why I Joined Tinubu in Türkiye – Air Chief Explains Strategic Mission

Date:

The Nigerian Air Force has explained that the Chief of Air Staff accompanied President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his official visit to Türkiye as part of a strategic effort to strengthen Nigeria’s defence capabilities and security partnerships.

In a statement, the Air Force said the trip was driven by operational priorities, particularly the fight against terrorism, banditry, insurgency and other asymmetric threats confronting the country.

According to the service, the high-level visit underscored the Federal Government’s resolve to deepen international cooperation and accelerate defence modernisation in response to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

“The presence of the Chief of Air Staff on the delegation reflects Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its defence posture and building strategic partnerships that enhance operational effectiveness,” the Air Force said.

The statement further revealed that President Tinubu’s engagements in Türkiye resulted in the signing of multiple agreements across defence, trade, education, technology and other sectors, aimed at translating bilateral interests into tangible outcomes.

It added that the visit provided an opportunity for Nigerian defence officials to interact with key players in Türkiye’s defence industry and review procurement programmes, training opportunities and technology transfer initiatives.

Speaking on the broader significance of the visit, Defence Minister Christopher Musa said the administration was determined to equip the armed forces with the tools and partnerships needed to tackle Nigeria’s security threats.

“Our engagements in Türkiye are practical steps toward strengthening our operational effectiveness and self-reliance,” Musa said.
