BREAKING: “Police Fire Tear Gas as Protesters Storm Lagos Assembly Over Demolitions

Date:

Police on Tuesday fired tear gas to disperse protesters who stormed the Lagos State House of Assembly in Alausa over the demolition of their homes and businesses.

The protesters, drawn from affected communities, marched to the assembly complex to demand government intervention, accusing authorities of carrying out demolitions without adequate notice, compensation or resettlement plans.

Chanting slogans and waving placards, some of the protesters attempted to force their way into the premises before security operatives moved in to block their advance.

“They told us to leave, but they didn’t tell us where to go,” one of the protesters said, describing the demolitions as “inhumane and unjust.”

The situation later escalated as police officers fired tear gas canisters to disperse the crowd, forcing protesters to flee the area.

There was no immediate official response from the Lagos State Government or the House of Assembly at the time of filing this report.
