Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, has explained that President Bola Tinubu briefly lost his balance in Turkey after stepping on a metal object.
Onanuga gave the clarification on Tuesday while responding to enquiries about the President’s well-being in Ankara.
President Tinubu momentarily missed his step during an official engagement in the Turkish capital while walking alongside his host, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The incident occurred shortly after Tinubu had inspected a parade organised in his honour as part of a ceremonial reception.
A review of the video footage showed that the President went down after a cameraman moved a tripod stand close to him.
However, Onanuga dismissed suggestions of a fall, stressing that the President only experienced a minor stumble.
“The President stepped on a metal on the floor, which made him lose his balance,” Onanuga said.
“This is not a big deal, except for those who want to make mischief out of a fleeting incident. It was a mere stumble, thank God, not a fall,” he added.
