Wike Revokes Apo-Karshi Road Contract, Re-awards to SCC

Date:

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Thursday announced the revocation of the 13-kilometre Apo-Karshi Road contract, originally awarded to Kakatar Construction Company Ltd. in 2011, citing unsatisfactory progress. The project has now been re-awarded to SCC, a firm he described as having the necessary capacity to complete the work.

Wike made the announcement during an inspection tour of ongoing FCT road projects, which also included the Karu-Customs-CBN Road, Gishiri-Katampe Road, and Apo-Wasa Carriageway. “Let me tell you the truth, we have terminated that contract; it has been re-awarded to SCC. If you go there now, you will see that they have started work,” he said.

The minister stressed that road contracts should serve the public interest rather than political agendas. He reiterated that the government could not continue to “play politics when it comes to the welfare of the people.”

Wike also disclosed that the Kubwa-Bwari road has been awarded and that work has commenced, providing an alternative route for residents. During the inspection, he assured a shop owner whose property was marked for demolition that adequate compensation would be provided, emphasizing that public safety and the free flow of water channels outweighed individual concerns.

Expressing satisfaction with the warm reception from residents at the project sites, Wike said, “What makes the government feel relaxed is when the people are happy. The very essence of governance is to make people happy and provide what improves their lives.”

He further noted that the ongoing road projects would be commissioned during the third-anniversary celebration of President Bola Tinubu. Wike added that the FCTA would not initiate new contracts in 2026, focusing instead on completing all current projects ahead of the political year.
