A former All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Katsina State, Mustapha Inuwa, has revealed that ongoing coalition talks involving key opposition figures are expected to result in the formation of a new political platform before the end of June 2025.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Katsina, Inuwa disclosed that prominent politicians including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai, and ex-Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi are spearheading the coalition aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu and the APC in the 2027 general elections.
“We need a reliable, trusted platform to beat this government, and by the grace of God, by the end of this month, the leadership will conclude on which platform to use,” he said.
According to Inuwa, the alliance is in the national interest, designed to rescue Nigeria from what he described as a leadership vacuum. “Nigeria has no leadership, even as the so-called giant of Africa. Our country has lost touch with others in the region,” he added.
Coalition Aimed at National Renewal
The former Secretary to the Katsina State Government praised the collaboration between Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai, and Amaechi, saying the coalition represents a strategic move toward national development and democratic revitalisation.
He encouraged supporters to remain hopeful and prayerful, urging them to resist mass defections to the ruling party, which he likened to “jumping from frying pan into fire.”
Criticism of APC and PDP Practices
Inuwa criticised both the APC and PDP for poor internal democratic practices, citing the recent local government elections in Katsina State where only government-backed candidates allegedly received nomination forms.
“What has happened in APC is the same thing that happened in PDP, especially during congresses. It’s a cycle of imposed candidates,” he stated.
He concluded by emphasizing the centrality of the electorate in shaping Nigeria’s political future: “Our major concern is the electorate because they are the ones to decide, and they are with us and we are with them.”
As the June 30 deadline approaches, political watchers are closely monitoring the emerging alliance, which could significantly reshape Nigeria’s 2027 electoral landscape.
