ACF Mourns 170 Lives Lost in Niger Flood and Kano Road Crash

Date:

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has expressed profound grief over two recent calamities in northern Nigeria: a devastating flood in Niger State and a fatal road accident in Kano State.

The flood in Niger State reportedly claimed about 150 lives, destroyed numerous properties, and displaced many residents. Meanwhile, in Kano State’s Dakatsalle area, at least 20 people—including athletes, officials, and journalists returning from the National Sports Festival in Ogun State—lost their lives in a horrific road crash.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Tukur Muhammad-Baba, the ACF extended condolences to the families of the victims, praying for God’s comfort for the bereaved and speedy recovery for the injured.

The Forum also urged government authorities to take disaster warnings seriously, recalling its earlier warnings about potential flooding in Niger State. “We believe there is still time to prepare for such predictable events, even if they are beyond human control,” the statement added.

ACF called on emergency agencies, aid organizations, and citizens to take proactive steps to mitigate future disasters. It emphasized the importance of observing environmental and hygienic practices, respecting laws, unblocking drainage systems, and avoiding indiscriminate dumping of waste.

The socio-cultural group prayed for divine protection for Nigerians against natural and human-induced calamities and stressed the need for all stakeholders to collaborate in preventing such tragedies going forward.
