Gunmen Storm Abuja Estate, Residents Feared Abducted in Midnight Raid

Date:

Several residents of Grow Homes Estate in Chikakore, Kubwa—Abuja’s largest suburban town—were feared abducted in the early hours of Monday as heavily armed kidnappers launched a brazen attack on the community.

The assailants reportedly stormed the estate between 12:00 am and 1:30 am, overpowering the local vigilante team and holding residents hostage for over an hour.

Witnesses said the gunmen abducted at least a man and a woman during the siege. However, the woman was mysteriously released and found within the estate by daybreak. The reason for her release remains unclear.

At press time, the total number of abducted persons had not been confirmed.

“The incident happened around 12 midnight. Those guys were well-armed, and they overpowered our local vigilance team,” a resident told Punch. “The police arrived at about 1 am, and there was heavy gunfire for around 30 minutes.”

Residents are calling for urgent government intervention, citing poor road conditions that hamper security response.

“We are begging the government to fix this road for easier access for security vehicles. We also plead with the police and FCT Administration to establish a station here for faster response during emergencies,” another resident added.

The FCT Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident. More details are expected as investigations continue.
