Power Outage Darkens 10,000m Race at 2024 National Sports Festival

Date:

Drama unfolded at the ongoing 2024 National Sports Festival last night, when the lights suddenly went out during the men’s 10,000m race at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena.

Despite the unexpected blackout, the race did not stop according to a video post on X by Chris Emenyonu – a reporter at the Games with the handle @Krizbaba22.

The winner whose name was not announced as at the time of filing in this report crossed the line with a time of 30:35.50secs in a truly remarkable display of resilience.

He wrote, “So alot happened at the ongoing #GatewayGamesOGUN2024 today but the height was light going off during a 10,000m race.

“The race didn’t stop. There was a dramatic end to the race in the dark. And the winner finished in 30.35.50. Nigeria is alot, honestly.”

Athletes who took part in the race powered through the darkness, pushing themselves to the limit until the finish line.

Only in Nigeria — where challenges become part of the story and spirit shines through.
