Ogunmodede Presents NPFL Trophy to Agbaakin of Yoruba Land

Date:

In celebration of Remo Stars’ historic Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) triumph, head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede has presented the championship trophy to the Agbaakin of Yoruba Land, High Chief Muraina Alexander, at his residence.

The symbolic gesture comes after Ogunmodede led Remo Stars to clinch the NPFL title, marking the first time in 25 years that a privately-owned club from Ogun State has brought the coveted trophy home. Ogunmodede, who also serves as assistant coach of the Super Eagles, described the moment as one of pride and a milestone for grassroots football development in the South West.

“As an indegene of Ogun state, this victory belongs to the people. Presenting the trophy to a revered Yoruba elder like the Agbaakin is a way of paying homage to our roots,” said Ogunmodede during the brief but significant ceremony.

High Chief Muraina Alexander expressed his pride and commended the team’s achievement, describing it as a turning point for private football clubs and youth empowerment in the region.

“This is not just a trophy, it’s a symbol of resilience and a challenge to other clubs across Nigeria to keep pushing boundaries,” the Agbaakin said.

As part of the club’s victory tour, Ogunmodede also announced plans to present the trophy to the Ooni of Ife, one of the most prominent traditional rulers in Yoruba land.

Remo Stars’ NPFL victory has been widely celebrated, not just for its sporting merit, but for its significance in elevating the profile of private football clubs and inspiring young talents across Nigeria.
