Osimhen declares Galatasaray ‘the best’ after 25th title triumph

Date:

Victor Osimhen has celebrated Galatasaray’s record-extending 25th Turkish Süper Lig title with a bold declaration following their comprehensive 3-0 victory over Kayserispor on Sunday.

The Super Eagles hitman took to social media platform X to express his joy, writing, “What more can I say? We are the Best. @GalatasaraySK. God is the Greatest!”

Osimhen continued his remarkable scoring streak, netting his seventh goal in six games to help the Istanbul giants secure the league crown with two matches to spare.
The emphatic win moved Galatasaray eight points clear of Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe, condemning their bitter rivals to a fourth consecutive season as runners-up.

The triumph completed a memorable domestic double for Galatasaray, coming just days after their Turkish Cup victory in which Osimhen scored twice against Trabzonspor. This marks the club’s first league and cup double since the 2018/19 season.

“We won one trophy. On Sunday, we will fight for the fifth star,” Osimhen had promised following Wednesday’s cup final, and the 26-year-old duly delivered on his word as he opened the scoring against Kayserispor at Rams Park.

Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera added a late penalty to wrap up the 3-0, putting the seal on a season in which the club has led the standings since matchday three.

The title means Galatasaray have qualified directly for next season’s Champions League league phase.

For Osimhen, the goal was his 25th in the Süper Lig this season, moving him three clear of Istanbul Başakşehir’s Krzysztof Piątek in the race for the Golden Boot with two matches remaining.

The Nigerian striker has been in devastating form since arriving on loan from Napoli last September, amassing a career-best 36 goals across all competitions while adding seven assists.

His brace in Wednesday’s cup final had already seen him surpass Brazilian legend Mario Jardel’s 24-year-old record to become the most prolific foreign player ever in Turkish football in a single season.

While Osimhen’s clinical finishing has been instrumental in Galatasaray’s success, Fenerbahçe’s failure to win any of the four Istanbul derbies against Galatasaray and Beşiktaş proved costly for Mourinho’s side, who last won the championship 11 years ago.

With his loan spell set to conclude at the end of the season, speculation about Osimhen’s future continues to mount.

Italian media reports suggest Napoli President Aurelio de Laurentiis has accepted an €85m offer from Juventus despite initial reluctance to sell to a Serie A rival.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia Pro League side Al Hilal are reportedly prepared to tempt the Nigerian with lucrative personal terms.
