Several lives are feared lost following a fatal road accident that occurred on Monday evening at Karu Bridge along the Nyanya-Keffi road in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Eyewitness accounts report that the accident, which happened around 5:30 pm, involved a trailer and a vehicle transporting sachet water, popularly known as “pure water.” The impact of the collision was described as severe, though official casualty figures had yet to be released as of press time.
The tragic incident comes less than 24 hours after another deadly crash was recorded at the same location, raising alarm over the increasing frequency of accidents along the heavily trafficked corridor.
Emergency responders were swiftly deployed to the scene, working to extract victims and clear the debris. Security operatives are also present to maintain order and ensure smooth traffic flow around the area.
This marks the third major accident along the Nyanya-Keffi road in 2025 alone, underscoring growing safety concerns. The route serves as a vital link between Abuja and states such as Benue and Plateau, and has become notorious for high accident rates, prompting renewed calls for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and improved road infrastructure.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the cause of the accident or provide a confirmed number of casualties.
More details will follow as the story develops.
