Brentford Recall Onyeka from Augsburg

Date:

Brentford FC have recalled Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka from his loan at FC Augsburg, where he made 30 Bundesliga appearances this season scoring once.

Onyeka, nicknamed “the Tank”, impressed under coach Jess Thorup, but returns to London despite Augsburg’s interest in a permanent deal.

The 27-year-old has a market value of €7m.

Onyeka is one of four confirmed departures from Augsburg. Fredrik Jensen, Reece Oxford, and Raphael Framberger will also leave the club.

Jensen, 27, exits following the expiry of his contract, having contributed nine goals and 12 assists in 110 appearances since 2018.

A proposed move to St. Louis City SC recently fell through.

Framberger retires at 29, ending an 11-year professional run with Augsburg after graduating from the club’s academy.

Oxford, once a highly-rated English prospect, leaves on a free after struggling with long COVID.

The defender made 84 league appearances but hasn’t featured in the past two seasons.
