PDP not losing grip on Taraba, says party chair

Date:

The Taraba State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has dismissed speculations that Governor Agbu Kefas is planning to defect from the party.

It reaffirmed that the state remains a stronghold of the PDP in Northern Nigeria.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Taraba State PDP Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, reiterated the party’s dominance in the state and dismissed any notion of internal instability.

“Taraba State is the stronghold of PDP in Northern Nigeria,” Bawa asserted.

“While other states in Northern Nigeria have explored opposition parties, Taraba has remained a steadfast PDP bastion.”

Bawa credited the state’s political loyalty to the PDP’s enduring principles and the performance of its leaders since the return of democracy in 1999.

“The party’s commitment to its ideals and principles has resonated with the people of Taraba, who have consistently returned PDP leaders to power,” he said.

He described Governor Agbu Kefas’ leadership as a “significant milestone in the party’s history,” pointing out that the governor’s rise from a former state PDP chairman to the governorship underscores the PDP’s internal strength and capacity to produce tested leaders.

Praising Kefas for his policies and governance style, Bawa noted: “His strong commitment to party ideals and the welfare of Tarabans” is evident in people-centred initiatives such as the prompt implementation of the N30,000 minimum wage and its recent upgrade to N70,000.

The chairman also highlighted Kefas’ move to clear a 10-month salary backlog owed to staff at the PDP state secretariat. “This demonstrates his commitment to party loyalists and the welfare of those who have worked tirelessly to promote the party’s interests,” he added.

Bawa further lauded the governor’s sweeping education reforms, which he said have been widely applauded and are contributing to sustained support for the PDP across the state.

He concluded with a firm rebuttal of ongoing political speculations: “Taraba State’s loyalty to the PDP is a clear indication of the party’s effective governance.

As the only state in Northern Nigeria that has never tested opposition, Taraba remains a PDP stronghold.”
