The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has disclosed that it has responded to a total of 8,585 emergency incidents across Lagos State between 2019 and 2025.

This was revealed in a statement issued on Monday by the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to Oke-Osanyintolu, the figures reflect the agency’s commitment under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration to safeguarding lives and property through prompt response, rescue, and recovery efforts.

“From January 1, 2024, to April 2025 alone, LASEMA responded to 2,143 incidents, comprising 1,675 in 2024 and 468 between January and April 2025,” he stated.

On a single day — April 25, 2025 — the agency handled 121 incidents, showcasing the high demand for emergency services in the state. The breakdown included 40 road accidents, 25 fire disasters, 22 truck/tanker-related accidents, and 13 medical emergencies. Other categories included windstorms, electric powerline faults, public complaints, assaults, water well incidents, building collapses (6), and explosions (2).

In terms of local government trends, Alimosho and Kosofe topped the list for emergency occurrences, each recording 16 cases. Eti-Osa and Ikeja followed with 13 cases apiece, while Mushin reported 9 incidents. Lagos Island and Oshodi-Isolo both recorded 8 incidents each.

“These numbers demonstrate our unwavering commitment to emergency preparedness and public safety across Lagos and its environs,” Oke-Osanyintolu affirmed.

LASEMA reiterated its resolve to continue enhancing its operational capacity to meet the growing demands of emergency response in the megacity.
