Israeli Jets Escort Iranian Plane Back to Iran in Ceasefire Enforcement Operation

Date:

As part of its enforcement of the ceasefire agreement, the Israeli Air Force intervened on Sunday, directing an Iranian Mahan Air plane—suspected of transporting weapons to Hezbollah in Syria—to turn around. Israeli fighter jets flew in close proximity to the aircraft in a threatening posture, signaling their intent to take action if necessary. The aircraft complied and returned eastward.

The incident occurred in Syria, as opposed to Lebanon, marking a shift in location for Israeli operations. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said the operation was based on intelligence suggesting the Iranian plane was carrying weapons for Hezbollah.

According to the ceasefire terms, a “letter of assurances” was issued, affirming the U.S. commitment to collaborate with Israel to curb Iran’s destabilizing activities in Lebanon, including blocking weapon transfers to Hezbollah.

In addition to this operation, the IDF continued its actions in southern Lebanon, targeting armed terrorists in a church previously used by Hezbollah as a base of operations. The IDF neutralized the militants and discovered a weapons cache buried nearby.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz emphasized the country’s firm stance on the ceasefire agreement, with Netanyahu reiterating that any violations would be met with a swift response from the IDF. He assured the public that Israel’s security and war achievements would be steadfastly preserved.
