Sekere of Lagos Hints at Political Future in Imeko Farewell to Grandparents

Date:

Hon. Hammed Adeniyi Adebolu, popularly known as the Sekere of Lagos, hosted the final burial ceremony of his late grandparents, Pa Kelani Asabi Adebolu and Madam Sariyu Alake Olaosepin Adebolu, on Friday, May 25, 2025, in Imeko, Ogun State—an event marked not only by cultural splendour but also by subtle hints at his political aspirations.

Hon. Adebolu, who is Chairman of the Irede Foundation and CEO of Munshay Luxury Homes and Apartment, drew a crowd of family, friends, dignitaries, and community members, political figures, traditional leaders from different states, and community stakeholders to the well-attended burial ceremony.

The celebration, rich in Yoruba tradition, featured musical performances, traditional rites, and generous hospitality. While the event served to honour the memory of the revered Adebolu family elders, many observers noted that it also served as a platform for Hon. Adebolu to strengthen community ties and showcase leadership capacity—both seen as early signals of a move into politics.

In his address, Adebolu paid glowing tributes to his grandparents, describing them as “giants in integrity and love whose values remain the foundation of our family.” He also spoke about the importance of legacy, development, and youth empowerment—themes that resonated with several attendees and further fueled speculation about his entry into the political arena.

“I believe in service beyond self,” he said. “And I believe the time has come for true leadership that is rooted in compassion and driven by results.”

The Imeko community and guests from Lagos and beyond turned out in large numbers, with many interpreting Adebolu’s words and wide-reaching network as the early steps of a political journey, potentially toward a legislative or local government position.

Security was tight at the event, which also attracted media coverage and social commentary, as supporters and residents lauded Adebolu for his philanthropy and developmental initiatives through the Irede Foundation.

While he has not officially declared any political ambition, insiders suggest Hon. Adebolu could be gearing up for a major political announcement in the coming months.

The final burial rites not only honoured the lives of two beloved elders but also potentially marked the beginning of a new chapter in public service for the man known as the Sekere of Lagos.
