The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced nomination and administrative fees for aspirants vying for positions in the upcoming July 12 local government elections in Lagos State.
According to the election guidelines released on Tuesday and signed by Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, and Secretary, Dr. Adeola Jokomba, chairmanship aspirants are required to pay N5 million for the nomination form and an additional N500,000 as an administrative fee.
Female aspirants will pay a discounted nomination fee of N2.5 million, while maintaining the same administrative charge of N500,000.
The APC further revealed that youth aspirants under the age of 40 will benefit from a 50 percent reduction in the nomination fee but must pay the full administrative fee. Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) are exempt from the nomination fee entirely and will pay only N250,000 in administrative charges.
For councillorship positions, male aspirants are to pay N1 million for the nomination form and N100,000 as administrative fees. Female candidates will pay N250,000 and the same N100,000 fee, while youths are entitled to a 50 percent nomination fee discount. PLWDs will receive free nomination forms and pay N50,000 as administrative charges.
The party emphasized that no additional fee will be charged for the office of Vice Chairman, and all payments must be made via bank draft in favour of the All Progressives Congress, Lagos State.
Further stipulations include that chairmanship aspirants must be supported by five registered party members from their ward or local government area, while councillorship aspirants require endorsement from 20 registered members within their wards.
To qualify, all aspirants must be Nigerian citizens, be educated to at least the school certificate level or its equivalent, and meet age requirements—30 years for chairmanship and 25 years for councillorship. Higher qualifications are considered an advantage.
The APC also stated that all aspirants must submit proof of party membership, evidence of party loyalty, and sign the party’s Code of Conduct. Only those screened and cleared by the party’s Screening Committee will be eligible to contest in the primaries.
Additionally, any current officeholder intending to contest must resign at least 30 days prior to the election or primary date.
The announcement comes as preparations intensify for the local council polls across Lagos’ 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
