Man Divorces Wife three times on the Spot After Hotel Raid Arrest

Date:

In a dramatic turn of events at a police station in Minna, Niger State, a man reportedly ended his marriage on the spot after discovering his wife had been arrested during a police raid on a hotel suspected of harbouring criminals.

The woman was among several individuals apprehended by security operatives during a clampdown on hotels believed to be hideouts for sara-suka gang members and drug dealers. The raid was ordered by the Niger State Government following growing concerns over youth restiveness and rising insecurity in the state capital.

According to a security operative who spoke to Daily Trust on condition of anonymity, the woman’s marital status only became known after she arrived at the police station, and the relatives of arrested suspects were contacted.

“Following the recurring youth restiveness and attacks on innocent citizens, the Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba, directed that we intensify operations against troublemakers. During the raid on some hotels, we arrested many suspects, including women,” the source said.

He continued, “We were still processing the suspects when a man arrived, identified one of the women as his wife, and immediately pronounced divorce—three times—right there at the station.”

Police have yet to conclude investigations into the activities of those arrested during the operation. It remains unclear why the woman was at the hotel at the time of the raid or whether she has any connection to criminal activities.

The hotel raids form part of the state government’s broader strategy to restore public safety and curb youth-led violence in Minna.
