Tragedy struck in Delta State over the weekend as gunmen suspected to be herdsmen launched a deadly attack on travelers, resulting in multiple casualties, including the deaths of two children and the abduction of several persons.
According to eyewitness accounts, the attack occurred on the road between Abraka and Benin City. A female traveler, who narrowly escaped the assault, shared a chilling video on social media showing injured victims, including a bloodied man and others who sustained various degrees of injuries.
“Our driver noticed that something was wrong, so he quickly reversed back,” the woman recounted, adding that two children were fatally shot during the ambush. She also stated that several people were forcefully taken by the assailants.
The exact number of abducted individuals remains unclear as of press time, but local sources confirm that many vehicles were affected in the sudden attack.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement, but residents are calling for increased security patrols along major highways in the state, especially in light of the rising cases of violent attacks and kidnappings.
The incident adds to growing concerns over insecurity in the region, with many urging the government to take decisive action to protect lives and property on Nigeria’s roads.
