Now Not Time To Talk About Future Moves – Alonso

Date:

Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso said that “it’s not a good moment to talk about the future” when asked about links with a move to Real Madrid.

“I won’t talk about rumours and speculations. We’re still in the season and have ambitions,” Alonso said in a news conference on Friday.

He has long been linked with a job at his former club Madrid, but the speculation intensified with Real coach Ancelotti possibly on the hot seat after the Champions League exit in the quarter-finals.

Alonso, however, stressed the the result means “nothing for us.” His contract with Leverkusen runs until 2026.

Last season, he led Leverkusen to the Bundesliga and German Cup titles. After a shock Cup exit to third division side Arminia Bielefeld, they now aim to retain the league title.

Leverkusen are second in the standings, six points behind leaders Bayern Munich.

“We had the whole week to train with all players. There are still five Bundesliga games this season, Bayern’s advantage remained the same. We’re focused on our game,” Alonso said.

“Anything can happen in football. We still have a bit of hope and want to give everything.”
