In a statement marking Easter, suspended Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has called on the people of Rivers to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, pledging his unwavering commitment to delivering good governance.
The governor, whose tenure has been marred by political tensions and a controversial suspension, described Easter as a season of unity and reconciliation, calling for collective strength and faith in a brighter future.
“This season renews our confidence that neither hardship nor adversity can separate us from the love of God,” Fubara said. “I reiterate my commitment to the resilient people of Rivers State. Let us continue to align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu while looking forward to a better tomorrow.”
However, the governor’s appeal was met with sharp criticism from former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Prince Chibudom Nwuche, who accused Fubara of ingratitude toward his political benefactors, particularly the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike.
Speaking during a visit from the Wikematic Councilors Forum (WCF), Nwuche praised President Tinubu’s recent intervention in Rivers politics and expressed full support for the newly appointed Sole Administrator, Vice-Admiral Ibok Ibas (rtd).
“Those who made Fubara governor were sidelined and victimised. Rather than showing gratitude, he betrayed his benefactor,” Nwuche said. “Even the Bible condemns ingratitude. A river that forgets its source will soon dry up.”
He also warned against the growing role of ethnic politics in the state, cautioning non-indigenes against fueling political division.
As Rivers State continues to grapple with leadership struggles and political instability, the spotlight remains on both Fubara and the federal government’s next steps in restoring peace and governance in the oil-rich state.
