The new Nollywood dramedy Family Brouhaha has made an impressive entry into the Nigerian film market, grossing a remarkable N21.4 million in its opening week.

The film, which debuted in cinemas nationwide on April 11, has quickly captured the attention of audiences and critics alike, becoming one of the standout releases of 2025.

Directed by Femi Adebayo and written and produced by renowned storyteller Oyinlola Lasisi (aka Oyinlaz), Family Brouhaha features a star-studded ensemble cast including Joke Silva, Wale Ojo, Gabriel Afolayan, Shaffy Bello, and Charles Okocha, among others.

Set around the sudden death of a wealthy matriarch of a cocoa empire, the plot unfolds into a mix of mystery, humour, and family drama as relatives clash over inheritance, revealing secrets and long-standing feuds. The story, which blends comedy and emotional tension, has resonated strongly with Nigerian audiences.

Speaking about the film’s success, director Femi Adebayo said: “Family Brouhaha has something for everyone. It’s funny, touching, and so real. When I saw the script, I knew it was a story worth telling.”

Producer Oyinlola Lasisi described the movie as “a mirror to Nigerian society,” noting that its message goes beyond entertainment. “It highlights the hidden tensions in families and the importance of creating emotionally safe spaces at home,” she said.

With early buzz and strong box office numbers, Family Brouhaha is expected to continue its momentum in the coming weeks, with industry watchers predicting possible nominations at the upcoming Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
