Boko Haram Return: NGOs Cry Out For FG`s Help

Date:

A coalition of non-governmental organizations and civil society organizations has cried out to the federal government for quick intervention over renewed attacks by Boko Haram.

The coalition comprises Humanitarian Network for Northern Nigeria, Northeast Youth Initiative for Development, XPeace Associates, and Youth Initiative Against Terrorism.

The call comes on the heels of a series of devastating attacks, including the Damboa-Maiduguri Highway bombing, which claimed the lives of eight individuals and injured over 20 others.

This incident, coupled with the Malam-Fatori Military Base attack, which resulted in the deaths of 22 soldiers, and the coordinated attacks on Wajiroko and Wulgo bases, has raised fears of a reversal of progress in the region.

According to the statement signed by Bukar Atiyaye from the the group, observed that the resurgence of Boko Haram activities can be attributed to several factors, including the Federal Government’s inactions, the collapse of regional cooperation, ineffective reintegration mechanisms, and community disillusionment.

The organizations are demanding that the Federal Government take immediate and decisive action to reclaim and safeguard threatened territories, adopt a proactive military strategy, and review and enhance reintegration and monitoring frameworks for ex-combatants.

“We cannot afford to regress to the bleakest periods of Boko Haram’s dominance,” the group warned. “The warning signs are evident. The time to take action is not tomorrow, it is now.”
