Adeyanju Celebrates Tompolo at 54, Hails Him as Niger Delta Hero

Date:

Prominent human rights lawyer and senior partner at Deji Adeyanju & Partners, Deji Adeyanju, has extended heartfelt congratulations to High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, on the occasion of his 54th birthday, lauding him as a transformative force in the Niger Delta’s struggle for justice and development.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Adeyanju described Tompolo as the “great lion of the Niger Delta” and the “Ibe-Ebidouwei of Ijaw Nation,” celebrating his decades-long advocacy for the region’s economic empowerment, environmental protection, and security.

He particularly credited Tompolo’s efforts in securing the 13% derivation fund from the Federal Government—an achievement he said has significantly boosted the economic fortunes of the oil-rich region.

Adeyanju also praised Tompolo’s contributions to national security through Tantita Security Services, a private firm established by the former militant leader. The company has played a key role in safeguarding Nigeria’s oil and gas infrastructure, curbing pipeline vandalism, and promoting economic stability.

“Tompolo’s monumental contributions to Nigeria’s economic development will forever be etched in history,” Adeyanju stated.

The lawyer further acknowledged Tompolo’s role in the creation of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), which has led to infrastructure improvements such as roads, clean water access, and other essential services across numerous communities in the region.

He added that the Presidential Amnesty Programme, which has empowered thousands of former agitators with skills and employment opportunities, was largely a result of Tompolo’s advocacy and willingness to embrace peace.

“Tompolo’s decision—alongside other agitators—to lay down arms has brought about relative peace in the Niger Delta,” Adeyanju noted.

Beyond his political influence, Tompolo has been instrumental in reducing environmental pollution in the region, even though significant challenges remain.

Adeyanju concluded by wishing Tompolo a long, healthy, and impactful life, describing him as an enduring symbol of hope and liberation for the Ijaw people and the broader Niger Delta.

“Tompolo’s legacy as a defender of his people and champion of justice is worthy of celebration,” he said.
