Salah Rejects Saudi Millions, Commits Future to Liverpool

Date:

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has ended months of speculation by signing a new two-year contract with the club, reportedly worth £42 million. The deal, announced on Friday, will see the Egyptian star remain at Anfield until 2027.

According to reports in his home country, Salah, 32, will earn up to £400,000 per week under the new terms—making him one of the Premier League’s highest-paid players. The club confirmed the signing without revealing the length of the deal, simply stating that it will keep Salah “beyond the 2024-25 season.”

Salah’s contract extension marks the end of an intense transfer saga, during which he was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia. Reports suggest he turned down a lucrative £130 million-per-year offer from the Middle East to continue his legacy at Liverpool, with ambitions to win the Ballon d’Or and add to his trophy haul.

“I’m very excited,” Salah said in a statement. “We have a great team, and I believe we can win more big trophies together. I’ve had my best years here, and hopefully it’s going to be 10 years at the club.”

Since joining Liverpool from Roma in 2017 for £36.5 million, Salah has become a club legend, netting 243 goals in 394 appearances. He is currently the Premier League’s top scorer this season with 27 goals, helping Liverpool build an 11-point lead at the top of the table with seven matches remaining.

In a significant boost for new manager Arne Slot, club captain Virgil van Dijk is also expected to sign a two-year extension, following Salah’s commitment. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Van Dijk’s deal will be finalised before the end of the season.

However, Liverpool fans were dealt a blow with reports that Trent Alexander-Arnold has agreed to a five-year deal with Real Madrid, ending his 21-year association with the club.

The developments mark a pivotal moment for Liverpool as the club seeks to maintain its dominance in English football while preparing for life after Jurgen Klopp.
