Jude Diggar Ezenwafor on Tuesday emerged the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra state.
Although Ezenwafor was the sole contestant in the party’s gubernatorial primary conducted at the Prof, Dora Akunyili Women Development Center in Awka, the Chairman of the three man PDP ad-hoc committee for the primary, Col. Chijioke Onwubuya(Rtd) said it was not going to be mere affirmation.
He said that the total number of accredited delegates from the state’s 21 local government areas were 839, while the national delegates from the state were 14 bringing the grand total of accredited delegates to 853.
He said that the modus operandi is that votes must be cast.
“It’s not an affirmation. You must cast your votes.
“If you don’t want him write “NO” and if you want him,write hs name on the paper provided and cast in the ballot box”,he said.
After addressing the delegates they filed in alphabetical order of their local government areas to cast their votes.
The peaceful primary election was conducted in the presence of observers from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and personnel from the Department of State Security Services.
Before then however, the state chairman of the party Chidi Akajiugo Chidebe had expressed gratitude to delegates and party supporters for their steadfastness and faith in the party.
He also eulogised the former state chairman of the party, Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu for his contributions to the growth of the party in the state.
“What we are doing today is our tradition for picking our flag bearer. We are a peaceful party,law abiding.
“Nigerians in the past made the mistake of removing the party from power over ten ago and they are paying for it. The same applies to our native Anambra.
“The PDP is populated by people with conscience and character. Those who want things done by fiat have found their way out. Those remaining are people of integrity”,he said and urged the party faithful to unite and wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the state come November8, this year when the state governorship election is held.
The PDP candidate, Mr. Jude Diggar Ezenwafor who spoke at the end of the exercise said that with the ticket in his kitty, the PDP was on its way to the government house in Agu Awka.
“Today, the PDP is going back to the government house in Agu Awka come November.
“You have been a former youth leader of the party in the state and all I want from you is support
“Join hands with me to build the party and ein the governorship election in November. It baffles me when I hear people say there is nobody of substance in the state chapter again while we are here. Let me tell you now that I didn’t plan to step down for anybody. Together,we will see it through.
“All the local government and ward coordinators of PDP are now automatic coordinators of my campaign and I am going to place them on salary,” he said, adding that he was on a rescue mission.
