President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Nasir Naeem Abdulsalam as the new Managing Director of the Ajaokuta Steel Company, effective April 3, 2025.
The appointment was announced in a statement released on Friday by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
Abdulsalam, a seasoned professional in the steel sector, has previously served as the Technical Adviser to the Minister of Steel Development and as Special Assistant (Academics) to the Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS).
According to the OSGF, the appointment complies with the provisions of the Certain Political and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc.) Act, 2008 (as amended).
President Tinubu has tasked Abdulsalam with the urgent mandate of revitalising the Ajaokuta Steel Company to stimulate industrial growth and support Nigeria’s drive toward becoming Africa’s leading industrial powerhouse.
This appointment is part of the administration’s broader Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasizes economic diversification and the development of core industries to reduce reliance on oil revenue.
Often dubbed Nigeria’s most ambitious industrial project, Ajaokuta Steel Company has long been central to discussions on the nation’s economic transformation and manufacturing potential.
