Shettima Represents Tinubu at Senegal’s 65th Independence Anniversary

Date:

Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Dakar, Senegal, where he will represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary celebrations.

Senegal, which gained independence from French colonial rule on April 4, 1960, marks the occasion annually with national parades, cultural displays, and official ceremonies celebrating its progress and unity.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima’s participation follows an official invitation from Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. The visit underscores the strong diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and Senegal.

Nigeria and Senegal have maintained longstanding relations, particularly within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), where they collaborate on regional security, trade, and development initiatives.

The main celebration will take place at Place de la Nation in Dakar, where President Faye will host Vice President Shettima and other distinguished guests from across Africa and beyond. The event is expected to reinforce Senegal’s commitment to democratic governance and regional cooperation.

Vice President Shettima is scheduled to return to Nigeria immediately after the one-day celebrations, resuming his national duties and diplomatic engagements.
