Partnership With UNIDO, Others, Key In Driving Economic Transformation Programmes – FG

The federal government on Wednesday through the minister of state for Industry, Senator John Owan Enoh, disclosed that partnership with international development organisations such as United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), will help in driving its structural economic transformation programmes.

It also said that such partnerships will further efforts at empowering Nigerians and reducing reliance on the export of primary goods.

Senator Enoh, said this at the official signing ceremony of the Program for Country Partnership (PCP) and Industrial Development Fund (IDR) Agreement in Abuja.

At the event which took place in the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning (FMB&EP), Senator Enoh while addressing the audience led by UNIDO`s Director-General, Mr. Gerd Müller, commended the organisation`s efforts in the formulation and signing of the PCP Agreement.

He also underscored UNIDO for its enduring collaboration and confidence in positioning Nigeria as a leading example of inclusive and sustainable industrialisation within the African continent.

According to him, the PCP Agreement is “strategically aligned with advancing Nigeria’s industrial transformation agenda under the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration.”

While reiterating the role of the Industrial Revolution Work Group (IRWG), in addressing challenges related to the radicalisation of Nigeria’s industrial value chain, the minister called for measures to expedite Nigeria’s industrialisation dream.

He emphasised the potential of the Local Workforce Joint Initiative (LWJ) in tackling systemic bottlenecks, expediting the development of industrial zones, and facilitating the infusion of private capital and cutting-edge technology into Nigeria’s productive sectors.

Present at the event were the Permanent Secretary in the ministry of industry, trade and investment, Ambassador Nura Abba Rimi, the Japanese Ambassador to Nigeria, and representatives from other donor agencies.
