ACS Scholarship Aims to Lower Barriers for Chemistry Students

Date:

In an effort to foster greater diversity in the chemical sciences, the American Chemical Society (ACS) has opened applications for its prestigious ACS Scholars Program. The initiative provides renewable scholarships aimed at alleviating the high costs of university education for students from historically underrepresented backgrounds.

With college tuition and essential lab equipment presenting significant financial barriers, the program seeks to empower the next generation of chemists by offering direct financial support. The scholarships are open to both high school seniors and current undergraduate students who are pursuing degrees in chemical sciences and plan to enter chemistry-related careers.

“We are committed to reducing the economic hurdles that can deter talented students from achieving their potential in chemistry,” a program representative stated. “This scholarship is an investment in a more inclusive and innovative scientific community.”

Key Eligibility Details:
Prospective applicants must be members of groups historically underrepresented in the chemical sciences, including African-American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian, and multi-racial individuals from these communities. A firm intention to build a career in a chemistry-related field is required, along with meeting additional academic criteria.

The application window is officially open and will run through March 1. All applications must be submitted via the official ACS Scholars Program website.

Aspiring chemists are encouraged to apply early and take a step toward securing both their educational future and a place in the vital field of chemical research.

Application deadline:

March 1, 2026
