In a decisive response to rising attacks on public infrastructure, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command announced on Tuesday that it has dismantled key criminal hideouts across Abuja and recovered armoured underground power cable worth about ₦31.1 million.
Spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh said the operation targeted notorious black spots in Mabushi, Maitama and the Central Business District, where criminal networks have been vandalising critical installations — from electricity and internet lines to manhole covers — and disrupting essential services in parts of the capital and neighbouring communities.
During the raids, police arrested multiple suspects and seized 296 pieces of cut-to-size armoured cable, along with 171 manhole covers, two transformers, four cable-pulling tools and 52 bags of what is suspected to be cannabis sativa.
Adeh said investigations are continuing to track down collaborators, buyers and other elements in the supply chain of the stolen materials. “Anyone found receiving or trading in pilfered public assets will face prosecution under the law,” she added, urging residents to stay vigilant and report suspicious activity.
The police reiterated their commitment to protecting lives and property in Abuja, promising sustained intelligence-led patrols and community-based security partnerships to deter further attacks on infrastructure.
