Millions Gather in Katsina for Landmark Maulud Festival

Date:

KATSINA — A remarkable wave of devotion swept through Katsina State on Saturday as millions of worshippers gathered to celebrate the annual Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass Maulud, marking one of the largest religious gatherings in the region this year.

The event, held in honour of the respected Sufi scholar Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass, drew followers of the Tijaniyya Islamic Order from across Nigeria and beyond — transforming Katsina into a vibrant hub of spiritual reflection, unity and cultural fellowship.

Organisers estimate that well over three million devotees converged on the state, with some projections suggesting the crowd could exceed four million, as pilgrims from neighbouring countries and distant communities joined the celebration.

The festivities included a series of religious lectures, prayers, and commemorative activities culminating in a grand rally that filled the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium and its surrounding environs. Organisers say the Maulud not only honours the legacy of Sheikh Nyass but also fosters fellowship and peace among the diverse Muslim communities represented.

Local authorities worked alongside security personnel and volunteer committees to ensure the event remained peaceful and well-coordinated despite the vast turnout, showcasing Katsina’s capacity to host large-scale spiritual events.
