Nigeria’s Super Eagles bowed out of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday night after a 4–2 penalty shootout defeat to hosts Morocco in the semi-final.
The Eagles struggled to carve out clear chances and failed to make the most of the few opportunities that came their way. After 90 minutes of tense, goalless football—and another barren 30 minutes of extra time—the tie was decided from the spot.
Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemachi missed their penalties for Nigeria, while the Atlas Lions converted all four of theirs to seal a place in the final.
Morocco will now face Senegal in the AFCON 2025 final, while Nigeria turn their attention to a third-place playoff clash against Egypt.
