The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the appointment of 73 match officials for the upcoming TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025, scheduled to hold from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.
According to a statement released on Wednesday, the selected officials include 28 referees, 31 assistant referees and 14 Video Assistant Referee (VAR) specialists drawn from across Africa’s regional blocs. CAF described the group as “highly experienced,” noting that many have handled major continental matches in recent years.
CAF said all officials are expected to arrive in Morocco on 15 December for an intensive preparatory course ahead of kickoff. The programme, to be coordinated by the CAF Referees Department, will feature physical drills, technical training and theoretical assessments aimed at ensuring top-level officiating throughout the tournament.
The football body noted that the rigorous selection process reflects its commitment to strengthening refereeing standards, enhancing competition integrity and maintaining excellence across African football.
AFCON Morocco 2025 will bring together the continent’s top national teams, with officials playing a critical role in delivering a smooth and credible tournament.
