Viral Video: Imo Police Begin Investigation into Alleged Cult-Affiliated Officers

Date:

The Imo State Police Command has launched an investigation into a viral video showing some police officers allegedly wearing insignia associated with the Vikings confraternity, one of Nigeria’s most notorious cult groups.

The development followed a social media post by anti-cultism advocacy group Naija Confra, which accused the officers of “openly disgracing the Nigerian Police Force” by donning Vikings (DNKI) berets and caps while in uniform.

In the video, which quickly went viral across X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook on Friday, the officers were reportedly seen engaging in activities that the group described as “cult-like,” prompting widespread public outrage and calls for disciplinary action.

Responding to the allegations, the Imo State Police Command in a statement dated October 17, 2025, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, had ordered a “thorough investigation” into what he described as an “unacceptable display of unprofessionalism.”

The statement, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Okoye Henry, ANIPR, condemned the officers’ conduct as “unethical and unbecoming” of members of the Nigeria Police Force.

“The matter is being handled with utmost seriousness,” the statement read. “Upon conclusion of investigations, the officers involved will face serious disciplinary measures in accordance with police regulations.”

The police command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining professionalism and restoring public trust, assuring citizens that appropriate action would be taken to address the incident.

Meanwhile, Naija Confra defended its decision to expose the officers, stating that cultism within security agencies undermines the credibility of law enforcement and emboldens criminal networks.

The viral post reignited debate on social media about the infiltration of cult groups into the police and other security agencies, with many Nigerians urging the authorities to ensure accountability and transparency in the investigation.

The Imo Police Command has urged members of the public to remain calm and await the outcome of its inquiry.
