Bandits Kill Two Policemen in Kaduna, Police Launch Investigation

Date:

The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two of its officers by suspected bandits in Zonkwa, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of the state.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, stating that an investigation had begun to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to reports, the attack occurred on Friday evening at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Zonkwa, the administrative centre of Zangon Kataf LGA.

Preliminary findings suggest that the armed assailants stormed the station in an attempt to free suspected vandals earlier arrested in Kachia Local Government Area. However, the suspects were reportedly not in custody at the Zonkwa police facility at the time of the attack.

The police spokesman assured that security operatives had been mobilised to track down the attackers and restore calm in the affected community.

The incident adds to growing concerns over the resurgence of violent attacks targeting security personnel in parts of the North-West.

Earlier in the week, eight security operatives — including five policemen and three Community Protection Guards — were ambushed and killed by bandits along the Gusau–Funtuwa Road in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The Kaduna Police Command has urged residents to remain calm and provide useful information that could aid ongoing investigations.
