A security guard, identified as Amos Kini, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly abducting his employer’s two-year-old son in the Elemoro area of the state.
Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi confirmed the development in a statement on Monday, noting that the suspect fled with the child and his mother’s mobile phone on September 21, 2025, before demanding a ransom of ₦5m from the boy’s father.
According to Adebisi, the distraught mother reported the case at the Elemoro Police Division around 11:50 p.m. that night. The guard was said to have later contacted the father with the stolen phone to negotiate the ransom.
Operatives from the division launched a swift manhunt, interrogating the guard’s guarantor, Aruna Dauda, and placing pressure on the suspect. The child was eventually released unharmed, and Kini was tracked to a hideout in Elemoro on September 23, where he confessed to the crime.
The suspect is currently in police custody and will be charged in court upon completion of investigations.
Condemning the incident, Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh reassured Lagos residents of the command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and violent crimes. He urged parents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the state’s emergency lines.
The case adds to a growing list of abduction incidents involving domestic workers. In August, PUNCH Metro reported the arrest of a 32-year-old painter, Chigozie Clement, who allegedly kidnapped a customer’s seven-year-old son in Ketu Alapere and demanded ₦7m ransom before police rescued the boy.
