President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday declared that Nigeria’s economic hardship is now a thing of the past, assuring citizens that the country has “turned a corner” toward growth and prosperity.
The President made this statement at the Mapo Hall, Ibadan, during the coronation of His Imperial Majesty Oba Adewolu Ladoja, who was installed as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Speaking before thousands of guests, Tinubu blended his message of congratulations to the new monarch with words of reassurance to Nigerians, saying the nation’s economic pains were “as painful to us as a painful surgery” but have now eased.
“There is a bright light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you for your perseverance and endurance,” the President said.
The landmark coronation drew top dignitaries including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, and Federal Inland Revenue Service Chairman Dr. Zaccheus Adedeji.
Oba Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, ascended the throne after a 32-year progression through Ibadan’s traditional chieftaincy system, becoming the first ex-governor to attain the title of Olubadan.
Tinubu, recalling his campaign slogan “Emi lo’kan” (it’s my turn), expressed gratitude for the support he received from Ibadan people during his presidential bid.
“It is a privilege for me, as President, to witness your coronation and all the expectations and history we share together as you ascend the throne of your forebears,” he added.
The coronation was widely seen as a moment that bridges tradition and modern governance, cementing Oba Ladoja’s role as both a political and cultural leader in Oyo State.
