A Symbol of Service: Water FC President Honours Late Ekene Adams

Date:

One year after the passing of Honourable Ekene Adams, Water FC has paid a powerful tribute to its former player and Nigeria’s late sports lawmaker.

In a heartfelt statement on Wednesday, Water FC President Makanjuola Nureni described the late Adams—former Chairman of the House Committee on Sports—as “a symbol of resilience, integrity, and selfless service.”

“Ekene was more than a lawmaker. He was one of us,” Nureni said.

“He started his journey on the pitch with Water FC and carried those values—discipline, teamwork, and passion—into public office.”

Adams died on July 16, 2024, served in the National Assembly under the Labour Party and championed major reforms in Nigeria’s sports sector.

Known for his strong advocacy for grassroots development and athlete welfare, Adams never forgot his football roots.

“His story proves that sports can build more than champions—it can build leaders,” Nureni added.

Water FC, a leading grassroots football club, remembered Adams as a proud alum who used every opportunity to uplift others, especially young athletes across the country.

“As we mark a year since his passing, we honour a life of purpose. Ekene’s legacy still guides us,” Nureni said.

Born April 16, 1985, Ekene Adams left a lasting imprint on both the pitch and the Parliament.

His journey continues to inspire the next generation.
