Senator Shehu Sani on Wednesday lamented the loss of lives and properties caused by the recent flood in Mokwa of Niger State.
The former Senator who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the 8th Assembly described the incident as a tragedy for the entire country.
While donating the sum of N1 million to the Niger State Emergency Distress Fund, the former lawmaker called on well meaning Nigerians to come to the help of the victims.
According to him, now is the time to show and demonstrate empathy and compassion to the orphans, widows and widowers left behind by the victims.
He explained “we lost the bodies of our brothers and sisters and we must not lose their souls. The Mokwa tragedy is a dark cloud of responsibility hanging over the sky of our country.
He called on leaders to learn from the Mokwa accident by investing resources to better the lives of the people.
The Civil Rights Activist urged the federal government to allocate a special budget to rebuild Mokwa, and to ameliorate the suffering of those who lost loved ones and livelihoods in the natural disaster.
“The Federal Government should initiate a special budget to rebuild Mokwa to a modern town in honor of the spirit of those who lost their lives,” he maintained.
