Bayelsa Police Probe Hotel Death, Pursue Suspected Yahoo Boy

The Bayelsa State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a suspected Internet fraudster, popularly known as a “Yahoo boy,” following the discovery of the body of an unidentified young woman in a hotel located in the Igbogene area of Yenagoa, the state capital.

The incident occurred on Saturday, raising alarm and concern among residents in the community. According to a confidential source, the deceased had checked into the hotel with the suspected fraudster, who reportedly fled shortly after.

“The lifeless body of a young girl was found in a hotel at Igbogene on Saturday leaving the area in confusion,” the source said. “She lodged in the hotel with a suspected Yahoo boy who left immediately after. The hotel manager who found the dead body reported the incident to the police at Igbogene.”

The hotel manager’s report prompted immediate police action. The Police Public Relations Officer for Bayelsa State, Mr. Musa Muhammad, confirmed the development to PUNCH Metro on Sunday.

“We received the report yesterday (Saturday). Though no arrest has been made for now, an investigation is ongoing,” Mr. Muhammad said. “We are making serious inquiries to ensure that the culprits are brought to book. Also, an autopsy would be run on the deceased body to ascertain the cause of the death.”

Authorities are intensifying their search for the suspect as the investigation continues to unravel the circumstances surrounding the young woman’s untimely death.
