Man Utd Seal £62.5m Deal for Cunha

Date:

Manchester United have secured the signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal reportedly worth £62.5 million ($83 million).

According to a statement released by the club on Sunday, Cunha is expected to sign a five-year contract at Old Trafford, with an option for an additional year, pending visa approval and registration.

“Manchester United has reached an agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the signing of Matheus Cunha. Everyone at Manchester United looks forward to welcoming Matheus to Old Trafford,” the statement read.

Cunha, 26, arrived in Manchester over the weekend to finalize the transfer, becoming manager Ruben Amorim’s first signing of the summer window.

The Brazilian international, who has earned 13 caps for his country, enjoyed a standout 2024/25 season with Wolves, scoring 18 goals across all competitions and earning the club’s Player of the Year award.

He joined Wolves from Atletico Madrid in January 2023 and netted 33 goals in 92 appearances during his time at Molineux.

United activated the release clause in Cunha’s contract to secure the deal, as the Red Devils look to rebuild after a difficult campaign under Amorim. The club ended the season 15th in the Premier League and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur.

The acquisition of Cunha is expected to bolster United’s attacking options and signals the club’s intent to rejuvenate its squad ahead of the new season.
