Liverpool FC have completed the signing of Dutch international Jeremie Frimpong from Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, marking one of the first major signings under new manager Arne Slot.
The 24-year-old wing-back sealed his move to Anfield on Friday, May 30, 2025, after undergoing a medical and putting pen to paper on a long-term deal at the club’s AXA Training Centre.
Frimpong expressed his delight in joining the Reds, describing the decision as a “no-brainer.” Speaking to Liverpool’s official media, he said: “Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer. I told my agents, ‘Whatever you do, just get this done.’”
Addressing the fans, he added, “Liverpool fans, I’m going to give my all—my energy, my work-rate—and hopefully we can win together, celebrate together, get everything together. I won’t let you guys down.”
Frimpong arrives after a successful four-and-a-half-year spell at Bayer Leverkusen, where he played a key role in the club’s historic 2023–24 campaign. Leverkusen clinched both the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal, going unbeaten in domestic competitions and setting a record 51-match unbeaten streak.
Over 190 appearances for the German club, Frimpong scored 30 goals and provided 44 assists. He was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season for two consecutive years—2022–23 and 2023–24.
A product of Manchester City’s youth academy, Frimpong began his professional career with Celtic in 2019, where he won three major trophies before joining Leverkusen in January 2021.
Internationally, Frimpong made his debut for the Netherlands in October 2023 and has since earned 12 caps, scoring once.
Speaking about working with Liverpool’s new head coach Arne Slot, Frimpong said: “I’ve had good conversations with him. He sounds very positive, and he believes I can bring a lot of energy, my qualities, and my speed.”
The Dutch defender also noted praise from his international teammates who had played under Slot at Feyenoord, calling him “the best coach I’ve ever had.”
Frimpong’s squad number at Liverpool will be announced ahead of the 2025–26 season.
